Seneca names himself: Lucius Annaeus Seneca. The point is that Nature, Fate, and Fortune are all names of one God, as praenomen, nomen, and cognomen name one man.

The author names himself as the imagined objector addresses him; the dialogue is a defense of his own retirement from public life around AD 62.
